Along the sandy beaches of Denmark at some locations there was no way to set up a real harbor to withstand the crushing waves of the North Sea. Instead of docking their fishing boats, huge winches pull sturdy wooden boats through the sand on the beach, giving a chance to take a close look.
When I was a child there were many of these “Kutterlandingsplads” filled with bigger boats. Today, due to fishing regulations and smaller catches not many have survived. But at some places like Nr. Voropør you can still find them beached, sometimes even selling their catch right off the boat to tourist and locals.
